Entrepreneurial Finance
This online course provides participants with some of the theoretical and practical knowledge around how to raise business finance from different sources, manage funds and relations with investors and how entrepreneurs/investors can extract economic value from their investment. Students undertaking this course will be introduced to different sources of financing and financiers, and will analyse different strategies for attracting, securing and managing finance which may vary according to business model, business type and amount of financing required.

When you get an investment – legal clauses and small print. This topic will introduce the term sheet (the main document when receiving an investment), its most common clauses and how to negotiate them with investors. |
All participants that successfully complete the course (online multiple-choice questions quiz) will receive a certificate of completion.

The course is composed of both recorded and live online sessions that will be made available weekly. You may download these sessions in your own time. The sessions will be short and rich in content. Participants will also be able to engage with teaching staff and other participants via online discussion forum.

Your Instructor

Ivan Zupic is a Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the Institute of Management Studies, Goldsmiths, University of London, where he is teaching Entrepreneurial Finance and The Entrepreneurial Project modules.
His research interests include three main areas: (1) high-growth firms; (2) how digital technology enables open collaborative strategies (e.g. platform strategies, crowdsourcing) and (3) research methods – he is especially interested in bringing methods from machine learning and information systems (e.g. topic modeling, bibliometrics) into strategy and entrepreneurship research. His articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Organizational Research Methods, Management Decision and European Management Journal.
He conducted workshops on business model innovation, lean startup, pitching and market analysis for entrepreneurial teams in ABC Accelerator and CREA summer school. Two student teams coached by Ivan Zupic and his colleagues won the European-wide competition of student entrepreneurial projects from all participating Universities.
Before entering academia he worked as a consultant in the IT industry and editor/journalist in the media. He has extensive experience as a project manager in technology development, interacting with other managers as a consultant and running his own small business.
